What energy-saving programs do you offer so I don’t have to “sweat” my bill this spring?

A thorough spring cleaning is an essential tradition that allows us to refresh our sacred spaces at home and in the office to prepare for a new season. We know your spring-cleaning checklist is probably filled with decluttering and detoxifying tricks, but don’t forget these tips for how to keep your home or business running smoothly and maintain a low energy bill this season.

Give Your Air Conditioning a Boost

While you’re scrubbing till your space is shiny, remember to give your air conditioning (A/C) unit some attention, too. This may not be as gratifying as cleaning out your closet, but trust us, your pockets will thank you. Here are some energy-saving tips to keep things cool without breaking the bank.

  1. Check your filter regularly for excess buildup of dirt, dust and pet hair. As you wipe off the air conditioning grill (also known as the vent cover), make a habit of changing your filter regularly. Select types of filters can even be washed and re-used!
  2. Keep leaves, shrubbery and debris at least 18 inches away from your outdoor unit.
  3. In order to maintain proper airflow through your A/C system, keep the interior doors and vents open to help your unit circulate air more efficiently.

Hey, homeowners!  If your home A/C unit is more than 10 years old, needs frequent repairs or doesn’t keep your home cool, it may be time to consider buying a new high-efficiency air conditioner. The good news is with our $150 instant rebate, getting a new energy-efficient A/C unit for your home is no sweat. Learn more about how to redeem the rebate and see if you qualify here.

Pad Your Ceiling, Pad Your Wallet

Whether on the path of improvement at home or at work, ceiling insulation is critical to ensuring energy efficiency. Simply put, adding insulation to your space can reduce heating and cooling costs because it:

  1. Keeps unwanted heat out.
  2. Reduces the workload of your cooling system.
  3. Can result in additional savings on your energy bill.

If you don’t know how much insulation you have, don’t worry. Our Energy Experts can help when you schedule a free, in-person Home Energy Analysis. And you may also qualify for a rebate; learn more on that here.

Lower Your Monthly Bill with the “On Call” Program

Now that your spring cleaning is in “full bloom,” consider checking another item off your list by participating in our On Call program, which gives us the option to temporarily turn off the home appliances you choose to enroll when energy demand is high. You could save up to $137 a year even if we never need to turn off your appliances. And we typically don’t activate this program during nights, weekends or holidays. Historically, the program has been implemented a few times per year in early to late afternoons on weekdays.
