At FPL, we're working together with the communities we serve to make Florida an even better place to work and raise a family. Our employees and their families - our strongest connection to our communities - donate thousands of volunteer hours each year to make a difference in their communities. In 2020, employee volunteers contributed more than 32,800 hours in their local communities through company-sponsored projects and their own personal volunteer time. Additionally, 250+ community organizations have employees volunteering on their boards.
More than 1,000 volunteers participated in more than 27 community volunteer projects during FPL's twelfth annual Power to Care Week March 2 - 7, 2020. Volunteers, including employees and their friends and families and executive leadership, rolled up their sleeves to help clean beaches, landscape gardens, spruce up parks and more - all to give back to the communities we serve. During this week of service, over 4,000 volunteer hours were contributed to our communities.
The Dollars for Doers program allows us to recognize, support, and encourage the valuable contributions of our employees' volunteer efforts. Our Dollars for Doers program rewards qualifying nonprofit organizations for the volunteer work of NextEra Energy employees when certain criteria are met. Thanks to employees logging their volunteer hours, the NextEra Energy Foundation distributed $133,000 worth of Dollars for Doers grants to over 300 deserving nonprofit organizations across the country in 2020.
