FPL has been installing underground service for decades and is committed to increasing our underground facilities. About 48% of our distribution system is already underground, compared to about 30% for other utilities nationwide. About 90% of the new distribution lines we install are underground. In recent years, there has been growing interest in underground service for reasons ranging from aesthetics to improved reliability.

While underground service is convenient in many ways, it is important for interested customers to understand its pros, cons and requirements to consider when choosing if it is right for your neighborhood.
